The radio, jazz music, and emergence of a NATIONAL culture
Most of the African Americans that moved to the north during the Harlem Renaissance were rewarded with a better and more successful life.The African Americans did not leave behind the racism and oppression when they moved north however, they were forced to bare the worse conditions than everyone else in their communities. a man named Marcus Garvey came from Jamaica and after traveling around he concluded that blacks were very exploited and not treated equally. He organized the black to Africa movement were Gravey advocated a separation between blacks and other races.He also started the Universal Negro Improvement Association , this organization held almost 2.5 million members and sympathizers. Garvey was very boastful on increasing the pride of blacks and supported black run businesses because it showed that the African Americans were taking charge of their lives and striving to improve their lifestyles. Soon however, Garvey was sent to jail for mail fraud and he was later deported back to Jamaica. His organization's lost interest and dedication and began to die after that.
Jazz-During the 1920 also called the roaring twenties jazz music was a major hit. Many people listen to it and it was an amazing example of art.It was a new form of art in a music form. Also many people started painting as another form of art. People felt jazz was the birth of a new decade. William Christopher was a talented musician that basically paved the way. Jazz was played first in New Orleans. Blues was played often. Since jazz was a new style if was loved by many who never heard of it. Once jazz came out many learned how to play instruments.
The radio- The radio was a huge impact when it first came out like it still is. The radio changed on how people did everything. Once it came out it allowed you to listen to anything in a certain mile radius. You could hear news,sports,traffic,lectures,big events and music. 70 percent of the air time was given to the music industry.they even played 2 percent of sports related things. Once the radio was used they made the RCA in 1919 due to the military ceased its wartime control of wireless communications.
